About Hakeem

Hakeem Basheerud-Deen is a voice actor currently living in the Washington, DC Metro Area. After growing up and graduating high school in Chester, PA, Hakeem spent a career serving on active duty with the U.S. Air Force at duty stations around the world.  These assignments provided Hakeem with wonderful life experiences, eternal friendships,  and a world perspective to match.  Hakeem has lived in England, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the South Atlantic.

Hakeem began honing his talent for voice over at his first assignment with the Air Force in Upstate New York working the phones as the “Base Locator” helping family members and others find their airmen. It was his smooth “professional phone voice” that prompted Commanders at all subsequent Air Force assignments to call on him to read “Commendations and Citations” from Bronze Stars to Achievement Medals highlighting the meritorious accomplishments of his fellow Airmen.

Subsequent assignments to Montgomery, AL and Tacoma, WA saw Hakeem achieve moderate success in the modeling profession.  However, following a reassignment to England, Hakeem’s smooth voice found a home as the bass/baritone singer with local fan favorite a cappella group Five-15.  While in England with the Air Force, Hakeem completed a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Maryland’s University College which ignited in him a love of literature and poetry.  A natural storyteller, two professors in particular; Hakeem was encouraged  to experiment with his writing and dialogue in storytelling.

After the military, Hakeem relocated to the Washington, DC Metro Area where he was an occasional contributor WHUR 96.3’s “Fitness Friday” conversations on Veteran’s health. Hakeem was also the master of ceremonies for the first two seasons of Darryl Haley’s “Music at the Monument.” Hakeem went on to complete a master’s degree in Creative Writing with Southern New Hampshire University. This course of study reignited his love of poetry and storytelling, but also launched a new passion for screenwriting.

Hakeem began voice training at Voices for All where he learned the importance of developing a “story” for each project as well as his voice to provide the client a superior product; not to mention handling those d’s, t’s, and g’s!  Yes, he is always working on these.  😊

Another reassignment landed Hakeem on Ascension Island in the South Atlantic Ocean. It was during this assignment that Hakeem had the opportunity to hone his chops on the Radio. With his opening monologue to Donald Byrd’s Flight Time, Hakeem became the Voice of the Island broadcasting nightly on American Forces Network (AFN) Volcano Radio, FM 95.10. Hakeem’s smooth and sexy baritone broadcasting Jazz, news and musical commentary entertained a listening audience consisting of not only the Island population of Americans, Saints, Brits, French, and South Africans, but reached audiences on the Western Coasts of Africa and the Eastern Coasts of South America.
